First, we are looking for someone who can play piano or organ for our Sunday morning worship services. We have 3 special services during the year, too (Christmas Candlelight Service, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday). Secondarily, we would like someone who can direct the choir. Normally the choir sings a hymn or anthem during Sunday morning worship. They practice Sunday mornings after Sunday School. The choir normally sings a cantata for Christmas and Easter. They practice for these on Wednesday nights during the fall, winter, and early spring. A third tier possibility is leading the bell choir. The choir sometimes takes a break during the summer, though this year they sang well known hymns and only practiced Sunday mornings. St. Mark's has an Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ built in 1945, an extensive library of sacred music, and an adult choir of 10 to 15 voices, most of who read music. Qualifications for the position include proficiency and experience on the pipe organ as the primary instrument used in worship,as well as 3 years experience directing and accompanying adult choirs. Primary responsibilities include directing one choir practice during the week and serving as musician/accompanist for Sunday morning services. The successful applicant will work closely with the rector to select music. Other responsibilities include advising the vestry on matters concerning maintenance of the organ and being responsible for the proper utilization of the music budget. If the musician is unable to play a service he/she should arrange for a substitute.
