St. John's United Methodist Church, situated in the heart of downtown Rock Hill, South Carolina, is seeking a part-time organist to join our outstanding ministry team. St. John’s is a growing church renowned for its historically significant sanctuary, a strong tradition of musical excellence, and deep community involvement. The centerpiece of this role is a M.P. Möller pipe organ (Opus 4008, installed 1923–1924, fully restored in 2018). This instrument features a hybrid design, incorporating both the original pipe ranks and new digital ranks and stops. Musicians will utilize a new, computerized three-manual console that seamlessly blends modern digital technology with the organ's historic appearance. Notably, it was the first three-manual pipe organ installed in a Rock Hill church and holds the distinction of being the oldest pipe organ currently in a Rock Hill church. Responsibilities include providing music for worship services, including weekly 11 AM Sunday worship and special services (e.g., Christmas Eve, Holy Week), accompanying the Chancel Choir, soloists, and ensembles, and supporting regular Wednesday evening choir rehearsals and church weddings and funerals as available. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional performance skills, an understanding of sacred music within a liturgical context, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, choir members, and volunteers. This position will report directly to the Sr. Minister. Organist/Music Director

The Roman Catholic Musician (RCM) will provide professional piano and organ accompaniment for Masses, rehearsals, and special services. This role is essential in supporting the Roman Catholic Chaplain and parish community at Fort Jackson by enhancing worship through sacred music, ensuring full and active participation of the congregation in line with liturgical traditions. The Roman Catholic Musician will: • Provide piano and organ accompaniment for weekly Sunday Masses, including preludes, postludes, offertories, Communion, and hymn support. • Participate in weekly Mass rehearsals, collaborating with clergy and choirs to prepare music selections. • Perform at special services, including High Holy Days, seasonal celebrations, memorials, and funerals, as directed. • Attend and support special service rehearsals in coordination with the Chaplain and COR. • Arrive punctually (15 minutes before services/rehearsals) and maintain a professional demeanor in all activities. • Ensure music services meet the standards outlined in the Command Master Religious Program (CMRP). Education and/or Experience Required: • Demonstrated proficiency in piano and organ performance within Roman Catholic liturgical music traditions. • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Roman Catholic worship settings (requirement may be waived with proven skill and experience). • Strong understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy and sacred music. • Ability to work collaboratively with chaplains, staff, and choirs. • U.S. citizenship and ability to successfully complete background checks/security clearances. Preferred Skills: • Formal training in sacred music, liturgy, or a related field. • Experience leading choirs, ensembles, or music groups. • Familiarity with adapting repertoire to diverse congregational needs.
