Directing one older (2-5 grade) elementary children's choir as part of a graded children's choir program, with weekly Wednesday evening choir rehearsals from September to April ? and worship approximately monthly. Responsibilities and Duties ? Lead weekly Wednesday evening choir rehearsals of 45-60 minutes in length from Sept. to April. ? Subject to the employee?s availability, take part in extra rehearsals for regularly scheduled services that require additional preparation. ? Meet and coordinate regularly with the Music Director on a yearly calendar of regular worship (approximately monthly), other programs, and outreach. General Desired Qualifications and Skills A Christian who is mature in faith and committed to participation in church programs. Demonstrated ability to work with people, specifically with children. Evidence of passion for working with children and music. Expressed desire and evidence of ability to use music to deepen children?s worship experience and understanding of God. Specific experience/training/skills/attributes: Bachelor?s degree or above in music education, preferably at the elementary level, or evidence of intent to obtain training in music education, such as enrollment in a music degree program or further professional development through Chorister?s Guild or other organizations. Experience in teaching sacred and/or secular choral music to children, experience preferred in teaching music to children in a church setting, particularly in a Presbyterian church. Keyboard skills helpful, but not essential Evidence of strong communication skills with children, parents, and other adults. Evidence of the ability to work well with other music staff and volunteers to develop an exciting and engaging music ministry for children. Skills and personality traits to energize kids and to develop in them enthusiasm for music and the continuum of the church music program.
