Addtl Info Salary is commiserate with education and experience and can be discussed The position is a salaried position with two paid vacation days per year. It should require about 10 hours of time per week consisting of one church service and one adult choral rehearsal on Sunday. On occasion you will practice with the children and play for them. And on occasion play more than one service a week such as Easter and Christmas. The music is one for a blended type service of one hour with usually 60-100 in attendance. A proficiency on the piano would be hoped for as well. You can expect a church that is both welcoming and open-minded. We are rurally based halfway between Hwy 77 and Hwy 85. Located in a very historic building, we are the oldest church in Rowan County. We are blessed with a beautiful baby grand piano and a magnificent old pipe organ. St. John’s Lutheran Church Statesville, N.C, seeks applications for a part-time Organist/Director of Music position. The position is for 12-14 hours per week. Base salary will be commensurate with education and experience and is negotiable.

The Organist/Director of Music leads the music ministry at St. John’s. This includes collaborating with the pastor and the Worship & Music Committee to develop a robust and well-rounded music ministry for the St. John’s community.

Responsibilities and Expectations (including but are not limited to the following):
· Demonstrated skill and competency in Lutheran liturgical music on both the organ (3 manual 29 rank Schantz) and piano; accompany and lead congregational singing; directing the chancel choir and a handbell choir.
· Conduct weekly chancel choir and handbell choir rehearsals. 
· Work as part of a team with the pastor and worship and music team to choose worship settings and plan special services (e.g., Christmas, Lent, Easter sunrise and festival]

Position Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in music or church music required or five years’ experience working in an organist/ Music director position.
· Availability to work Sunday morning and one weeknight
· Knowledge of Liturgical worship principles is required.
· Enthusiastic. Organized. Excellent personal communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) and works well as part of a team.
· In the future, develop a children’s and youth music program.
· Cultivate a warm, inviting and energizing environment for the music program.
