The Organist/Director of Music leads the music ministry at St. John’s. This includes collaborating with the pastor and the Worship & Music Committee to develop a robust and well-rounded music ministry for the St. John’s community.
Responsibilities and Expectations (including but are not limited to the following):
· Demonstrated skill and competency in Lutheran liturgical music on both the organ (3 manual 29 rank Schantz) and piano; accompany and lead congregational singing; directing the chancel choir and a handbell choir.
· Conduct weekly chancel choir and handbell choir rehearsals.
· Work as part of a team with the pastor and worship and music team to choose worship settings and plan special services (e.g., Christmas, Lent, Easter sunrise and festival]
· Bachelor’s degree in music or church music required or five years’ experience working in an organist/ Music director position.
· Availability to work Sunday morning and one weeknight
· Knowledge of Liturgical worship principles is required.
· Enthusiastic. Organized. Excellent personal communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) and works well as part of a team.
· In the future, develop a children’s and youth music program.
· Cultivate a warm, inviting and energizing environment for the music program.
